UNDERHEARD IN NY

Giving a voice to the homeless through Twitter.

NYC RESCUE:
UNDERHEARD IN NEW YORK

The New York City Rescue Mission approached BBH NY to help create awareness for the growing homeless population following the economic downturn of recent years. In a time when communication is all around us, we felt it was time to give a voice to the people who needed it most.  We gave four homeless New Yorkers prepaid cell phones and asked them to tweet their experiences.

The community reaction was beyond anything we could have imagined, receiving over 150 million media impressions and being featured in every major media outlet from CNN and MSNBC to MTV and People Magazine.  The project later became the subject of a TED talk and was later named the 3rd most important tweet of 2011, after the Egyptian revolution and the death of Osama Bin Laden.
